The Kate Scanlon Award for 2013 was presented to the two successful applicants on the morning of the 21 September 2012 at the 2012 SARRAH National Conference, which was held at the Hotel Grand Chancellor, Launceston. Submitted applications were scored by three assessors, with two applicants remaining tied. After consultation it was agreed that the funding would be offered to both applicants.
Congratulations went to Alastair Norris (Dentistry) and Jordan McCreary (Physiotherapy) who were selected as the inaugural winners of the Kate Scanlon Award for 2013.
Alastair said he would use his funding towards work with the Royal Flying Doctors Service, and Jordan would use his funding towards organising a program for injury prevention and rehabilitation for a junior football club in Tasmania.
As part of the requirements for the award Alastair and Jordan need to submit a detailed report on the activities undertaken. The reports will be published on the website and in the newsletter in 2013.
We were privileged to have Kate’s parents attend the award ceremony and for them to have the opportunity to meet Alastair and Jordan and their families, who also attended.
The award was covered by local media (The Examiner) with a half page story in the Sunday edition.
