Guidelines for election to Honorary Life Member
General
These Guidelines have been approved by the Board of Services for Australian Rural and Remote Allied Health (SARRAH) to assist in the election of a person as an Honorary Life Member of SARRAH.
Each complete nomination for election is to be forward in the first instance to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who will then forward copies to the Board for consideration.
Criteria for Honorary Life Membership
The election of a member as an Honorary Life Member is recognition by SARRAH of an outstanding contribution to Australia’s rural and remote Allied Health practitioners by that member.
This honour will be bestowed on a member by the Board at SARRAH’s National Conference or at the SARRAH Summit, subject to these guidelines. The honour is not linked necessarily with that person’s retirement from a position held within SARRAH.
An outstanding contribution to SARRAH is one which:
- Results in SARRAH being substantially, demonstrably and positively changed by that contribution;
- Occurs over a significant period of time (at least 5 to 10 years);
- Required substantial and commendable personal input; and
- Can be clearly documented and corroborated.
The Board can decide the number of Honorary Life Members elected in any one calendar year.
Procedure for Nomination
Any current member of SARRAH who wishes to have a person considered for nomination as an Honorary Life Member may forward a submission to that effect in writing to the CEO.
A nomination for election of a person as Honorary Life Member shall be made addressing the ‘Criteria for Honorary Life Membership’. Supporting information including corroborated evidence of the outstanding contribution should accompany the nomination.
Procedures for Election of Honory Life Member
The CEO will refer nominations to the Board for consideration and recommendation.
Election to Honorary Life Member shall be by two-thirds majority of voting Board members present.
The Board has resolved that all matters relating to a nomination are confidential with only the final decision of the Board in favour of the nomination being announced publicly.
