The Australian Journal of Rural Health (AJRH) is a multidisciplinary refereed journal published both in hardcopy and electronically. It is peer reviewed and listed in Medline, as well as being covered by other major abstracting and indexing services. It provides research information, policy articles and reflections related to health care in rural and remote areas of Australia, and is an important publication vehicle for researchers and practitioners.
Since its inception in 1993, the AJRH has contributed significantly to the publication of research reports and expert opinion on rural and remote health. In 1999 ownership and management of the AJRH was assumed by the National Rural Health Alliance. The Alliance welcomes participation by its Member Bodies as Journal Associates and Affiliates. Journal Associates include the Rural Nursing and Midwifery Faculty of the Royal College of Nursing Australia (RNMF of RCNA), the Council of Remote Area Nurses of Australia (CRANA), and Services for Australian Rural and Remote Allied Health (SARRAH). The Australian Rural Health Education Network (ARHEN) is a Journal Affiliate.
This ownership structure attests to the multi-disciplinary nature of the AJRH and its primary purpose: to support, maintain and promote interdisciplinary health networks, and to help rural and remote health professionals influence policies and programs to improve the health of people living and working in rural and remote areas.
Subscribers to AJRH include general practitioners, nurses, allied health professionals, pharmacists, government departments, hospitals, administrators, universities, rural health units and libraries. Subscription details are available here or by contacting the Journal Manager.
The AJRH welcomes the submission of manuscripts and the Editor is pleased to hear from potential referees. As well as manuscripts of full academic papers, the AJRH also welcomes shorter articles on matters related to health in rural and remote areas, letters to the Editor, personal stories, ‘practice pointers’ and obituaries. Author guidelines are available here.
The AJRH is published by Wiley Blackwell and its production six times a year is overseen by a Board comprised of representatives of its Journal Associates, the NRHA, Wiley Blackwell and the editorial team. The Board is assisted by advisers from its Journal Affiliates and an International Advisory Board.
